Well, 2021 was quite the whirlwind, wasn’t it! I don’t know about you, but for me it also just flew by. I think this last week of 2021 – my sort-of-vacation-week – will also fly by, unfortunately (even though it promises to be a lot of fun).
In this post, I’m going to have a quick look back at 2021 before looking forward to my writing plans for 2022.
Looking Back
Although 2021 was very challenging – in some ways more so than the dreaded *whispers* 2020 – it also came with some exciting opportunities, including writing for The Companion and being invited to be part of ROSACon 2021.
While there were writing highlights, I did not write nearly as much fiction as I’d planned on, and there were a few reasons for this, but there are luckily some steps that I can take to (hopefully) ensure that 2022 will contain a lot more fiction, yay!
Looking Forward
There are some aspects of (specifically) my work-life balance that I really need to work on in 2022, the most important of which, are:
Looking better after my mental and physical health
Managing my time better
I also need to get back into a proper routine for working from home, but this is tied up with looking better after myself and managing my time better…
Looking after my mental health by keeping on taking my meds, seeing my psychologist, and journaling, etc. needs to be coupled with getting way more exercise than I’m getting at the moment. So, basically, I need a routine that works better for me where I am at the moment and won’t see me burnt out after a couple of months.
As with the past few years, I’ve also chosen a word again for 2022 – grow.
By “grow” I mean growing in a number of life areas, not simply work or writing. Speaking of which, my writing plans for 2022 is now plotted out for the most part.
My 2022 Writing Plans
Rather than making a whole bunch of writing goals for the year, getting frustrated when I fall behind and giving up, I’ve kept my writing goals for 2022 more on the “finish stuff” side than the “this is everything I wish I could fit in” side. So, without further ado, here we go – my writing project list for the next year:
Finish editing and publish Where the Stars Used to Sing
Finish the full series outline for The Ruon Chronicles
Finish the first draft of Porselein (the Afrikaans fantasy novel)
Start the new flash fiction collection; When Ships Sailed the Skies (a sort-of sequel to Where the Stars Used to Sing).
Speaking of Stars, I do have a brand-new, absolutely beautiful cover for the collection! Just have a look!
With that, and on a hopeful note for the future, I wish you a happy and blessed New Year!
Love,
Carin
